Sorry, metallifrazz, it is a Hawker Hurricane of 257 Squadron, RAF, lost to enemy action at Walton-on-the-Naze near Harwich. Its aircraft number P3175, side letters DT-S. Check out Wikipedia for a good description of how a Hurricane is constructed (not much wood, I'm afraid).

It's no Mustang or Hurricane, it is an early Spritfire, look at the tree exhaust pipes.

Guys sorry but it is a HURRICANE. I work at the RAF museum. I think the wood construction confusion comes from the MOSQUITO. For the exhaust, google any picture of a HURRICANE and you will see. Not only the spit had a 12 cyl engine... thanks

This is a Hawker Hurricane. The wood on the Hurricane is behind the cockpit and was long gone from this wreck. Our newly restored Hurricane at the Lone Star Flight Museum (Galveston, Texas) is a super example of this aircraft.
