This effect is not from breaking the sound barrier. He's going fast, but not that fast (necessarily).

Some of the local airflow around the aircraft is supersonic, but much of it is not. This is transonic flight. He's hanging around at about 0.97IMN?

mataba is right---besides, they-re probably @ traverse city airshow/cherry fest for the show and they rn't allowed 2 break the barrier- and if anyone says he might be, they are very-highly trained navy pilots, and the throttle is a 30 pound pull, i dont think they would break a reg.
