From: Goibneu@AOL.com (Fri Jun 11 02:00:23 2004)

TM, I think it was the P-51B painted in the Tuskeegee Airmens colors. Sorry, don't remember the name.

Was this the P-51 that crashed near the Van Nuys airport, near the Apollo R/C in LA?

Now that's where my plane went!
From: cj5_pilot (Wed Jan 12 21:36:23 2005)
I don't think it's the Tuskagee airmen '51. It's supposedly rebuildable. This one looks like a total loss.
From: PhilWyld (Thu Apr 28 11:31:23 2005)
with dedication, they are always recoverable, just very many replaced parts
From: crapweasel (Sat Jun 4 23:01:54 2005)
If I remember correctly, the Tuskeegee airmen painted the whole tail section red. This one looks like it may be from the 357th fighter group. It may have had red and yellow checkered prop cone.Damn, thats a sad sight.Awesome bird.

Jim Shuttleworth was well-known in the Warbird community and operated a small museum at the nearby Huntington Airport as well as running a multi-national corporation
From: sseeplane (Tue Jun 20 16:32:37 2006)
On 20 February 2003, pilot Jim Shuttleworth perished in the crash of his North American TF-51D Mustang N93TF near Urbana, Indiana. The crash occurred shortly after 5 pm. Witnesses told authorities that the plane appeared to be doing aerobatics when the engine appeared to quit.

From: A320 Guy (Sat Sep 9 22:03:05 2006)
The plane was obviously deadstick when it hit. The two visible propeller tips are undamaged. Very sad. =8-(

Great photos - nice to read the occasional informative comment. Humour is possibly the least funny on the internet though...
From: A friend of Jim's (Fri Jun 5 18:49:04 2009)
All these "humor" comments are extremely disrespectful... My father was on the site of this accident... he was the mechanic of this plane and the last to see Jim alive..
From: He is missed. (Wed Aug 19 10:12:49 2009)
Had known Jim and his family for a long time. I'll never forget the day he took me up in the T-6 and let me fly for a while. Just never got my ride in Scat-VII before this happenend. Truly a sad day. Would still love to find out if the plane rebuild has been finished and where it ended up.
