Try standing fire guard in front of those when the pilot decideds to throttle up with the TR's delpoyed, it isnt fun.

And here I thought from 7 1/2 years of active duty Air Force time that the F-16 was the only plane in the Air Force inventory that was able to do a vacuum cleaner impression...

Actually, the thrust reversers appear to be open, causing the vortex in humid air. Cool picture, tho.

Visable inlet vortices such as this are common at high power settings on humid days.

To bad they don't just put the make, model and run number on the side!

So are you say that rev. thrusters would be pushing forward, out of the jet engine. Not gonna work, jet spinning only one way and that's inward draw! Rev. thrust comes from the back, and redirected forward on the outside.

In Air Force terms that would be MDS (Mission Design Series) and it is supposed to be stenciled on the Lh fwd side of the cockpit. Sometimes this happens untill the aircraft goes to depot where they forget to put it back on. The worse thought is to remove the danger zone marks.

The vort is coming from the external of the engine.... where they always come from. Has nada to do with the TRs.
Nothing special... pretty, but not unusual.

Whats even cooler is to see a vortex develop between two engines, usually on a foggy day. Have seen this often on evan prop driven C-130's

B-52's used to do this on a wet ramp also. Makes you remember to stay the hell away from the inlets!

The S-3 may have been the original "Hoover", but the F-89 Scorpion was the "Gravel Gobbler". Didn't have nearly so far to suck.

C-17. Not doctored. The vortex is caused by the disturbance of the air by the jet engine. Vortices can be seen off of wingtips, flap corners, prop tips and engine disks.

Second bullet.
